1. (Feminism) (39287↑, 1463↓)
The belief that women are and should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men. These people can be either male or female human beings, although the ideology is commonly (and perhaps falsely) associated mainly with women. The basic idea of Feminism revolves around the principle that just because human bodies are designed to perform certain procreative functions, biological elements need not dictate intellectual and social functions, capabilities, and rights. Feminism also, by its nature, embraces the belief that all people are entitled to freedom and liberty within reason--including equal civil rights--and that discrimination should not be made based on gender, sexual orientation, skin color, ethnicity, religion, culture, or lifestyle. Feminists--and all persons interested in civil equality and intellectuality--are dedicated to fighting the ignorance that says people are controlled by and limited to their biology.

Feminism is the [belief] that all people are entitled to the same [civil rights] and liberties and can be [intellectual] equals regardless of [gender.] However, you should still hold the door for a feminist; this is known as [respect] or [politeness] and need have nothing whatever to do with gender discrimination.

3. (Feminism) (38961↑, 1286↓)
Feminism is a political, social, and cultural movement that aims at equal rights for women. Its beginnings and extreme controversy in a (Western) patriarchal society has created stigma and stereotypes associated with the definition. Some include that feminists are: -lesbians -man haters -'hairy-legged bitches' Feminism helped women get the vote, obtain equal rights for jobs, made laws to control domestic violence, help women obtain the rights to own property, to divorce, to have access to birth control and to have possession of their own bodies. Feminism is still needed in today's society. One can see this through the other versions of this definition. Man = Woman, no more, no less. Women were, and in social aspects, still are, treated as inferior. Sexism began as early as Aristotle, who claimed that women were 'imperfect' men since they did not contain a penis on their persons. To be superior, one must make something inferior. I am sure this definition will get many 'thumbs down', but it is the truth. I am a wo-man and I am a feminist.

"I am a feminist" "So you hate men?" "No...I think women should have equal rights as men" "WTF YOU SLAG CUNT FACED-BITCH" "...I still believe in feminism."

4. (feminism) (38954↑, 1322↓)
an ideology that focuses on woman being treated as equals to men. There is no sexism in this concept- because we live in a patriarchal society, males are automatically given a superior position. calling feminism sexist is also ignoring centuries of history where men have oppressed women. a common misconception about feminism is that one is supporting woman's equality but opposing man's. This is not true. Supporting something like gay rights doesn't mean you're against a straight person's rights, and the same goes for feminism in terms of equality between the sexes.

woman: I refused to receive a higher pay check than my male co-worker for doing the same amount of work because i support feminism. man: I refused to receive a higher pay check than my female co-worker for doing the same amount of work because i support feminism.

1. The right to choose in a non-oppressive society that is free of societal hierarchies. 2. A movement to end sexist oppression as well as domination relations. This does not only aim to make women equal to men, but all people equal to each other in rights. It is one gear in the bigger machine of human rights. 3. A movement to recognize and work to end the oppression of women in any form. 4. An examination of sexism with the intent to end it. 5. A movement for social justice with an emphasis on gender.

Feminism is a movement for social justice and human rights.

First of all i want to say that most of the entries on feminism are disrespectful and infuriating. The arguement that feminism states that women are better than men was created and is sustained by insecure men who are afraid of patriarchy tumbling down on their priveledged ignorant heads. WAKE UP people and look around you. all those "examples" of brain size, decreased male entry into college, etc are just excuses to either degrade women or only superficially examine the issues of gender equality. FEMINISM IS: 1.)respecting people of all genders (recognizing the diversity in sexuality, from homosexuals, transgendered, heterosexuals and transexuals) as human beings that deserve to be treated with respect. 2.) recognizing the past inequalities that have historically denied women access to many social, economic and political spheres that are mostly occupied by men. 3.)Recognizing the result of these inequalities have lasting impacts today

respecting a person enough to ask their consent before having sex not seeing a woman as an object but as a human being, this means making eye contact not checking out her body listening to women (and men of course) respectfully as you would men if you are a heterosexual straight white male, check your priveledge when talking about equality and recognize other people's experience as valid instead of monopolizing experiences relating to gender equality feminism is RESPECT

1. the advocation of social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men. 2. an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women. A response to [sexism], which is also known as an institutional barrier within a society that systematically prohibits women from gaining equal status to men. While humanism may be the equal rights for both men and women, feminism is also significant because women have been historically and cross-culturally subject to being of lesser status than men. Because [patriarchy] is such a prevalent form of social organization, and because by its very definition it relegates women as less than equal when compared to men, as long as patriarchy exists, feminism exists by necessity. COMMON MYTHS: 1. Men can't be feminists. FALSE. Both men and women can support equal rights for women. 2. All feminists are men-haters. FALSE. Feminists do not necessarily hate men; in fact, most don't.

Feminism exists because women are systematically and institutionally prejudiced against; it is not the result of one person's or one generation's choices, but because society has set women up to equate to less from the start.

10. (Feminism) (2862↑, 1022↓)
Feminism is a broad subject with many valid definitions. Among them the most popular and widely accepted is that it is the radical notion: "that women are in fact human beings with the same basic human rights and needs for self fullfillment as men." A definition that might seem flat and dumb to the less educated masses who might not consider the short historic period this has been an accepted idea. (some are still arguing.) There are many challenges yet to conquer for the modern feminist, you need only take a look at the other definitions offered at this very site to get a general feeling for the hassle and dicrimination a woman or man feminist might encounter daily.

Next time ignorant suckers bemoan the fact that they no longer have the legal responcibility of the woman they choose to mary, the fact that they no longer have to fear getting a girl pregnant each time they have sex and the fact that they can afford the newest wide screen tv because their significant other was able to chip in cause she's like getting payed soon to be eaqually at her job. Take a time to think about what feminism gave you for free while you was busy scratching your balls and feeling underprivileged.

12. (Feminism) (2404↑, 879↓)
The belief that women and men are equal, and the movement that has arisen to support that idea. Feminism can generally be divided into three periods in the United States: First Wave- 1800's-1920's. The passage of the 19th Ammendment is commonly seen as the culminating event of this phase. Second Wave- 1950's-1980's.This is often seen as the high point of the Women's Movement in the US. The failure of the Equal Rights Ammendment's passage is seen as the endpoint of this period. Third Wave- 1990's-present. Often seen as a more theoretically-driven phase, sometimes incorrectly referred to as post-feminism.

simply put, the notion that men and women are equal. feminism does not call for hating men, in fact, it abhors it. it is a call for human equality, regardless of race, age, and especially gender.

"I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a door mat or a prostitute." \feminismRebecca West

17. (feminism) (2433↑, 1067↓)
*Sigh* This is getting out of hand. Feminism is the idea that everyone is equal, plain and simple. Feminists are not 'ugly dykes' and are not 'the epitome of perfection'. Women who hate men are *not* feminists. Jeez, you all need to cool it.

Gloria Steinem was a feminist. Virginia Woolfe was a feminist. That chick at the bar who calls all men rapists was not a feminist.

18. (feminism) (2434↑, 1069↓)
an idea that involves the fair and equal treatment of people, regardless of their gender. A feminist believes that while women are physically different from and think differently about some things than men, this does not make either superior or inferior, it just means that they are different and should not be used as a basis for preferential treatment either way. Supporters of equal treatment for both genders are called feminists, whether or not they themselves are female. Note: some feminists, often referred to as feminazis, have given feminism a bad name by claiming that men are evil and that oppression lurks everywhere. This is unfortunate, as real feminism is about gender equality.

Feminism means that women are not *better* than men, just different from them, and should not be treated any better or worse than men for it.

19. (feminism) (2481↑, 1128↓)
A movement or social philosophy that advocates legal, social, and economic equality for women. Contrary to the beliefs of some misguided individuals, it derives no particular pleasure from the genital-related misfortunes of men, being rather preoccupied with such frivolous goals as getting paid the same goddamned money for doing the same goddamned work, not being forced to have babies, and not having to put up with shit from the entertainment, advertising and fashion industries that have a vested interest in making sure women hate their bodies.

20. (Feminism) (2331↑, 979↓)
Feminism is the movement of women that attempts to break down the barriers of gender inequality. It is thought to have began in the late 19th century with the womens campaign for the vote. It began to pick up steam in the again in the sixties with the arival of the pill but began to fizzle out in the 90s. It is now largely regarded (particularly by ignorant skinheaded men) as obselete. "Ya vote, ya work, Wha' ya monin' 'bout ya freaky lesbo" is the general thought among this crowd. True women can vote but that is hardly the surface of gender inequality. Women CAN work but are also expected to look after the kids and do the housework. Equal? I don't think so. Women are also statistically paid less for doing the same jobs as men and hold relatively few high powered jobs compared to men. Sure women have made progress but there are still major inequalties in society that need to be solved. "Why do I care?" I hear those of you who are male say. Well, you have mothers, sisters, wives etc. Wouldnt you be furious if they were disadvantaged because they were black or gay or disabled? Of course you would\! So why is it ok for this to happen to your family because they are women? You do not have to hate men or burn bras or be a lesbian to be a feminist. You just have to believe in equality. Feminists (including men) kick ass\!

Supporter of feminism: I demand equal pay for my sister\! Skinhead boss: I dont like bra burning lesbians.

21. (Feminism) (2097↑, 748↓)
A political movement, the goal of which is EQUAL rights for men and women. Many people view feminism as a negative movement. There are many branches of feminism such as Eco-Feminism, Womanism, Liberal and Radical Feminism. Feminists are more than just bra burning man haters. Feminism is the belief held by a [feminist]. A [feminist], in turn, is someone who believes that women are entitled to equal rights which in turn means equal pay for equal work. While there are most assuredly some feminists who are extreme in their beliefs, and who do dislike men (usually as a result of abuse or rape) most feminists -- and one need not be a female to believe in equal rights for both sexes, in fact, one wonders why everyone doesn't believe in equality -- most feminists are simply seeking equal rights under the law, and equal pay for equal work. Feminists do not hate men, nor are they "ugly dykes" -- it is infuriating to see hateful, useless, polarizing descriptions of this kind. In point of fact, the men who define feminists as "ugly dykes" are almost always the kind of men who create extremists; if I'm trying to obtain equal pay for my work, and I'm told that this is not a legitimate goal, but instead that I am "an ugly, hairy armpit, fat, can't get laid bitch" (this comes from one of the definitions) then I'm likely to feel extreme dislike for that individual. If this happens enough times, you can see why a feminist would turn into an extremist and start hating the people who delight in mislabeling her and distorting her beliefs. And of course there are greedy, ugly souls out there who are women, just as there are greedy, ugly people who are men. Given the dispersement of wealth in this country, the majority of these people are men, not women.. but there are a small minority of women who are as bad as their greedy, uncaring, "it's not my problem" male counterparts. No argument there. The MAJORITY, however, of feminists are people who work for a living, work hard, and are frustrated at having to work twice as hard to make less money than their male colleagues. They don't want to make MORE for less work, or less experience.. simply equal pay for equal work, and equal protection under the law. The only thing really in question is why anyone WOULDN'T support that. Why would anyone be AGAINST equal protection under the law, and equal pay for equal work unless that individual believed that women were a lesser life form or not as "human" as men, and therefore deserved to be treated without equality under the law, and without equal pay for equal work. And if you believe that... well, then you're not quite sane, are you?

Feminists believe that all people, male and female, are entitled to equal protection under the law, and equal pay for equal work. The question is, why don't YOU believe in it?

Feminism is the belief system that women and men are equal. While the stereotype of cuttroat feminists is still burned into the minds of the close-minded (see the other definitions for feminism)it is only a derogatory stereotype used primarily by the ignorant. Feminism is believeing that women deserve the same rights, respect, and chances as men.

Quotes demonstrating my definition: Real definition of Feminism: "Feminism is the radical notion that women are human beings" -Cheris Kramerae, author of A Feminist Dictionary, 1996. Stereotype: "Feminism encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians" -Rev. Pat Robertson, 1992 Republican Convention

31. (feminism) (2196↑, 911↓)
A gift. Men are in a world where they are bombarded with media, largely pornography, that tells them that women are for one purpose: to look at and have sex with. Pornography is full of misogyny. Feminists want to make men human again; they want them to act like real human beings who think of women as real human beings too and not just as a package that is invisible without breast implants, a small waist, high heels...ect... Feminists see that men are raping women because pornography makes it seem like this is okay. Feminists see that pornography has integrated itself into our culture and American society so much that exercise classes consist of strip tease and 4 year olds are wearing mini-skirts. To clarify, this is one breed of feminism. Other feminists find pornography, an industry that puts women through miserable treatment and diseases, liberating. These other feminists find it liberating for women to fake orgasms and consistantly fulfill the desires of men.

Radical Feminism wants women to possess "power" consistantly through avenues other than sexuality. Radical Feminism wants to never have a woman's face covered in cum ever again.

This word seems to set off a highly reactive defence mechanism in men whereby they express great hatred-fuelled statements against women. This reaction is rooted in man’s greatest fear and insecurity about the size of his dick. The hatred expressed is in inverse proportion to his dick size and tries to express his undeserved sense of superiority. Most wars are started by men and much of the hatred and negativity in the world is due to this testosterone related need to dominate and control. Testoserone seems to neutralise any positive feelings towards his fellow woman (human being). The examples of the voting for and against the definitions listed are proof that feminism needs to thrive even more in this world. It stands for justice, humanity, equality, love and peace. If you aren’t for those things, you aren’t really human, and if you aren’t a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem. But thankfully, there are some normal men out there too. Oh well, I guess it’s true that men have a brain and it’s not in their heads. .

"oops you said 'get down on your knees and prove my adoration?' I thought you said to do you a castration. Damn... my hearing isn't what it used to be since you gave me that beating to the head for your dinner being 2 minutes late". 33. (feminism) (1244↑, 17↓)
A movement created to promote equal rights of men and women alike, simply put. Many definitions try to degrade this notion by stating that it has backfired and turned into a reason for hating men. This is not the case. The reason people would think this is because in today's society many men are still raised on the notion that women are inferior and must be oppressed. They therefore promote hate against equal rights between men and women and try to degrade it in any way possible. Note that not all men are like this, but the majority are. There will always be sexist men. That is the unfortunate truth.

Feminism is a notion to equalize the fields and make people realize that men and women are equal in every way. Feminism does NOT support hate against men, it merely states that men are NOT SUPERIOR TO WOMEN. Get it in your goddamn heads, people.

34. (feminism) (364↑, 916↓)
The biggest disgrace to my gender. Feminism used to be about women getting the same rights as men, such as the right to vote and equal pay at work. Now feminism is a movement full of women who seem to think that their ability to push a baby out of their vagina entitles them to bigger and better everything.

I am a young woman and I disagree with feminism. It is pretty hypocritical to expect to be treated special because you are a female (such as tighter laws concerning rape or more leniancy if a woman becomes pregnant) yet they get upset when they aren't being treated exactly like a man. The feminists need to realize that women are not better than men. They are EQUAL. You don't see any laws that provide special treatment for men do you? Example: Once I saw a feminist say that abortions should be legal AND be free. I am all for abortion rights, but demanding that it be free because your ass couldn't use the proper birth control before spreading your legs is absured. And before you pull the rape card on me, keep in mind that if you go to the hospital after being raped, they give you medications to prevent pregnancy. I see no reason for free abortions.

An ideology defined by the following equation: F = (A + B) - C. Feminism equals Avarice plus Bigotry minus Conscience. Its most recent incarnation is characterized by supremacist whining, a form of double-think that would have made Orwell retch. Men are constantly reminded by feminists that women are taking the majority of jobs, starting more businesses than men, and generally acquiring more and more wealth at the expense of men. At the same time, feminists complain continuously about women's economic "oppression," (as though men have never been oppressed by impossible child support payments or unconscionable alimoney awards), the phoney "wage-gap" and the need for greater "equalization" (i.e. further plundering of men's earnings) in the economic sphere. Thus feminism gleefully predicts that men will become utterly disempowered while blithely demanding that they continue to subsidize the process. While perpetrating this nonsense, feminism still finds time to demand any prerogatives it deems fit to invent, squabble childishly about toilet seats AND AT THE SAME TIME complain about men's reluctance to commit to marriage (which, of course, is itself condemned as a misogynistic institution whenever it is expedient to do so). These are examples of the intellectual elasticity that allows feminism to present itself as correct on any issue, regardless of the facts or the eventual outcome. This, in turn, guides us to feminism's core philosophy: "Our say-so makes it so; if our pronouncements contradict each other, you males are required to believe both but only to the extent that they run counter to your interests and in favor of our convenience. This rule is absolute until it yields an outcome we don't like. Then we will pretend - and you are required to believe - that it never existed. Oh, and you are evil and sexist if you point to any flaw in this philosophy, even after we've abandoned or changed it. But you are a patronizing bastard if you fail to give our point-of-view your full critical consideration ... just as long as you don't disagree with it ... or agree with it for the wrong reasons ... and we will from time-to-time declare what the right and wrong reasons are ... and then change them to suit ourselves."

Feminism is nothing more than the politics of convenience.

Just another ism to try and destroy the white mans world, because white women hate thier men, and dont want to be with or supported by them anymore. These kind of Women think they're goddesses in need of worship, this is why women seek men that deep down inside they deem lesser, like black men, because it makes them feel superior. Because we all know feminist have that kind of mind set.

just google white women, and all it comes up with is black men and white women interracial dateing, why are you women so keen on destroying white men? feminism

Feminism is a word that means equal rights for women. Technically, most feminists should actually be called humanists. I'll ignore that since it was, and to some extent still is an important movement. Way back in the day, life was pretty damn bad for women everywhere. No vote, no driving, you know about that stuff anyway. Eventually, much of the inequality dissappeared, thanks to the hard wark of early feminism. Sadly some still persist to this day. Fortunately, most people accept that such social changes are bound to be gradual, and eventually, true equality will exist. This is the type of world that everyone should strive to live in, not just feminists. But alas, in more recent times, there has been a growing movement of "militant feminism". This is alternatively known as female chauvenism, and feminazism. These people often demand MORE rights than men have, usually by arguing that they are superior to men and blame men for everything. Yes men started wars. Are you saying that women wouldn't have? Hilary Clinton supported the Iraq war. Margeret Thatcher sent troops to the Falklands. To propagate such a view on men is a sexist view you chauvenist pig-bitch. Such a view is not part of feminism, or at least it's original usage of the word. These people are betraying the women who fought for their rights. Possibly the worst part about them is that they are either the prevalent female authors and commenters for feminism on urban dictionary, or that these women are denying the existence female sexism that has taken seed among the femism movement. I've talked to these people. In real life. Not on the net. They DO exist.

Feminist of the militant variety(Yes, she actually said this):"It's not fair to generalise women, men allways do that" and "men shouldn't have any say in abortion" Me:"I'd say TITS OR GTFO, but you're pretty damn fuck-fugly) Feminism gets a bad name because of these asshats

Feminism is the radical notion that men are not people.

Feminism dehumanizes men for political gain. Here are some examples from leading feminists in their own words: "Men who are unjustly accused of rape can sometimes gain from the experience." Catherine Comin, Vassar College. Assistant Dean of Students. "Probably the only place where a man can feel really secure is in a maximum security prison, except for the imminent threat of release." Germaine Greer. "All men are rapists and that's all they are." Marilyn French, Author; (later, advisor to Al Gore's Presidential Campaign.) "And if the professional rapist is to be separated from the average dominant heterosexual (male), it may be mainly a quantitative difference." Susan Griffin, Rape: The All-American Crime. "All men are good for is fucking, and running over with a truck". Statement made by A University of Maine Feminist Administrator, quoted by Richard Dinsmore, who brought a successful civil suit against the University in the amount of $600,000. Richard had protested the quote; was dismissed thereafter on the grounds of harassment; and responded by bringing suit against the University. 1995 settlement. "We live, I am trying to say, in an epidemic of male violence against women." Katha Pollitt. 'To call a man an animal is to flatter him; he's a machine, a walking dildo." Scum Manifesto. (Valerie Solanas) "All sex, even consensual sex between a married couple, is an act of violence perpetrated against a woman." Catherine MacKinnon (inventor of the sexual harassment paradigm, prominent legal feminist scholar; University of Michigan, & Yale.) "I believe that women have a capacity for understanding and compassion which man structurally does not have, does not have it because he cannot have it. He's just incapable of it." Former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. "The traditional flowers of courtship are the traditional flowers of the grave, delivered to the victim before the kill. The cadaver is dressed up and made up and laid down and ritually violated and consecrated to an eternity of being used." Andrea Dworkin "The media treat male assaults on women like rape, beating, and murder of wives and female lovers, or male incest with children, as individual aberrations...obscuring the fact that all male violence toward women is part of a concerted campaign." Marilyn French "Men renounce whatever they have in common with women so as to experience no commonality with women; and what is left...is one piece of flesh a few inches long, the penis. The penis is the man; the man is human; the penis signifies humanity." Andrea Dworkin "You grow up with your father holding you down and covering your mouth so another man can make a horrible searing pain between your legs." Catherine MacKinnon "Man-hating is everywhere, but everywhere it is twisted and transformed, disguised, tranquilized, and qualified. It coexists, never peacefully, with the love, desire, respect, and need women also feel for men. Always man-hating is shadowed by its milder, more diplomatic and doubtful twin, ambivalence." Judith Levine "Men's sexuality is mean and violent, and men so powerful that they can 'reach WITHIN women to fuck/construct us from the inside out.' Satan-like, men possess women, making their wicked fantasies and desires women's own. A woman who has sex with a man, therefore, does so against her will, 'even if she does not feel forced.' Judith Levine, (explicating comment profiling prevailing misandry.) ((Delaney Nickerson, of the American Coalition for ABUSE AWARENESS, refers to the False Memory Syndrome Foundation as "The Fucking Molesters Society". (Miami Herald, April 3, 1995) The ACAA is a lobbying group, which includes Ellen Bass (co-author of THE COURAGE TO HEAL), and Rene Frederickson, leading feminist psychotherapist and strong proponent of repressed memory theory.)) ((At the STONE ANGELS satanic ritual abuse conference in Thunder Bay in February, 1995, the following was contained in the handouts at a conference supported financially by the Ontario Government: FMS stands for: FULL OF MOSTLY SHIT; FOR MORE SADISM; FELONS, MURDERERS, SCUMBALLS; FREQUENT MOLESTERS SOCIETY.)) "The male is a domestic animal which, if treated with firmness...can be trained to do most things." Jilly Cooper, SCUM (Society For Cutting Up Men.) "Women have their faults / men have only two: / everything they say / everything they do." Popular Feminist Graffiti "I feel what they feel: man-hating, that volatile admixture of pity, contempt, disgust, envy, alienation, fear, and rage at men. It is hatred not only for the anonymous man who makes sucking noises on the street, not only for the rapist or the judge who acquits him, but for what the Greeks called philo-aphilos, 'hate in love,' for the men women share their lives with--husbands, lovers, friends, fathers, brothers, sons, coworkers." Judith Levine, My Enemy, My love "There are no boundaries between affectionate sex and slavery in (the male) world. Distinctions between pleasure and danger are academic; the dirty-laundrylist of 'sex acts'...includes rape, foot binding, fellatio, intercourse, auto eroticism, incest, anal intercourse, use and production of pornography, cunnilingus, sexual harassment, and murder." J. Levine; summarizing comment on the WAS document, (A southern Women's Writing Collective: Women Against Sex.) "I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp with a high-heel shoved in his mouth, like an apple in the mouth of a pig." Andrea Dworkin; from her book Ice and Fire . "Men are rapists, batterers, plunderers, killers; these same men are religious prophets, poets, heroes, figures of romance, adventure, accomplishment, figures ennobled by tragedy and defeat. Men have claimed the earth, called it "Her". Men ruin Her. Men have airplanes, guns, bombs, poisonous gases, weapons so perverse and deadly that they defy any authentically human imagination. Andrea Dworkin, Pornography: Men Possessing Women 'My feelings about men are the result of my experience. I have little sympathy for them. Like a Jew just released from Dachau, I watch the handsome young Nazi soldier fall writhing to the ground with a bullet in his stomach and I look briefly and walk on. I don't even need to shrug. I simply don't care. What he was, as a person, I mean, what his shames and yearnings were, simply don't matter." Marilyn French; The Woman's Room. "All patriarchists exalt the home and family as sacred, demanding it remain inviolate from prying eyes. Men want privacy for their violations of women... All women learn in childhood that women as a sex are men's prey." Marilyn French "On the Left, on the Right, in the Middle; Authors, statesmen, thieves; so-called humanists and self-declared fascists; the adventurous and the contemplative, in every realm of male expression and action, violence is experienced and articulated as love and freedom." Andrea Dworkin, Pornography: Men Possessing Women. "I was, in reality, bred by my parents as my father's concubine... What we take for granted as the stability of family life may well depend on the sexual slavery of our children. What's more, this is a cynical arrangement our institutions have colluded to conceal.". Journalist Sylvia Fraser "We are taught, encouraged, moulded by and lulled into accepting a range of false notions about the family. As a source of some of our most profound experiences, it continues to be such an integral part of our emotional lives that it appears beyond criticism. Yet hiding from the truth of family life leaves women and children vulnerable." Canadian Panel on Violence Against Women. Catharine MacKinnon ( ) maintains that "the private is a sphere of battery, marital rape and women's exploited labor." In this way, privacy and family are reduced to nothing more than aspects of the master plan, which is male domination. Democratic freedoms and the need to keep the state's nose out of our personal affairs are rendered meaningless. The real reason our society cherishes privacy is because men have invented it as an excuse to conceal their criminality. If people still insist that the traditional family is about love and mutual aid--ideals which, admittedly, are sometimes betrayed--they're "hiding from the truth." The family isn't a place where battery and marital rape sometimes happen but where little else apparently does. Sick men don't simply molest their daughters, they operate in league with their wives to "breed" them for that purpose. Donna Laframboise; The Princess at the Window; (in a critical explication of the Catharine MacKinnon, Gloria Steinhem et al tenets of misandric belief.) "I feel that 'man-hating' is an honorable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them." Robin Morgan, Ms. Magazine Editor. "I claim that rape exists any time sexual intercourse occurs when it has not been initiated by the woman, out of her own genuine affection and desire." Robin Morgan "And let's put one lie to rest for all time: the lie that men are oppressed, too, by sexism--the lie that there can be such a thing as 'men's liberation groups.' Oppression is something that one group of people commits against another group, specifically because of a 'threatening' characteristic shared by the latter group--skin, color, sex or age, etc. The oppressors are indeed FUCKED UP by being masters, but those masters are not OPPRESSED. Any master has the alternative of divesting himself of sexism or racism--the oppressed have no alternative--for they have no power but to fight. In the long run, Women's Liberation will of course free men--but in the short run it's going to cost men a lot of privilege, which no one gives up willingly or easily. Sexism is NOT the fault of women--kill your fathers, not your mothers". Robin Morgan. "Heterosexual intercourse is the pure, formalized expression of contempt for women's bodies." Andrea Dworkin "In a patriarchal society, all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent." Catharine MacKinnon, quoted in Professing Feminism: Cautionary Tales from the Strange World of Women's Studies. "The institution of sexual intercourse is anti-feminist". Ti-Grace Atkinson, Amazon Odyssey (p. 86). "(Rape) is nothing more or less than a conscious process of intimidation by which all men keep all women in a state of fear". Susan Brownmiller, Against Our Will p.6. "When a woman reaches orgasm with a man she is only collaborating with the patriarchal system, eroticizing her own oppression..." Sheila Jeffrys. "As long as some men use physical force to subjugate females, all men need not. The knowledge that some men do suffices to threaten all women. He can beat or kill the woman he claims to love; he can rape women...he can sexually molest his daughters... THE VAST MAJORITY OF MEN IN THE WORLD DO ONE OR MORE OF THE ABOVE." Marilyn French (her emphasis) From 'A feminist Dictionary; ed. Kramarae and Triechler, Pandora Press, 1985: MALE:...represents a variant of or deviation from the category of female. The first males were mutants...the male sex represents a degeneration and deformity of the female. MAN:...an obsolete life form... an ordinary creature who needs to be watched...a contradictory baby-man... Letter to editor: "Women's Turn to Dominate". "......Clearly you are not yet a free-thinking feminist but rather one of those women who bounce off the male-dominated, male-controlled social structures. Who cares how men feel or what they do or whether they suffer? They have had over 2000 years to dominate and made a complete hash of it. Now it is our turn. My only comment to men is: if you don't like it, bad luck--and if you get in my way I'll run you down." Signed: Liberated Women, Boronia Herald-Sun, Melbourne, Australia. 9 Feb., 1996. "If the classroom situation is very heteropatriarchal--a large beginning class of 50 to 60 students, say, with few feminist students--I am likely to define my task as largely one of recruitment...of persuading students that women are oppressed," said Professor Joyce Trebilcot of Washington University, as quoted in Who Stole Feminism: How Women Have Betrayed Women. "Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation, and destroy the male sex." Valerie Solana, SCUM Manifesto (Society for Cutting Up Men.) "Men, as a group, tend to be abusive, either verbally, sexually or emotionally. There are always the exceptions, but they are few and far between (I am married to one of them). There are different levels of violence and abuse and individual men buy into this system by varying degrees. But the male power structure always remains intact." Message on FEMISA, responding to a request for arguments that men are unnecessary for a child to grow into mature adulthood. And: Another posting on FEMISA: "Considering the nature and pervasiveness of men's violence, I would say that without question, children are better off being raised without the presence of men. Assaults on women and children are mostly perpetrated by men whom they are supposed to love and trust: fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers, step-fathers." Both quotes taken from Daphne Patai's excellent critical work, HETEROPHOBIA "At Brandies I discovered Feminism. And I instantly became a convert... writing brilliant papers in my Myths of Patriarchy class, in which I likened my fate as a woman to other victims throughout the ages." Heather Hart 7 "Ninety-five percent of women's experiences are about being a victim. Or about being an underdog, or having to survive... women didn't go to Vietnam and blow things up. They are not Rambo." Jodie Foster in The New York Times Magazine. * * * "The prejudicial, man-hating cant of militant 'gender' (victimal) Feminists has foolishly served only to reinforce a counter-sexist prejudice that holds ALL women to be likewise self-serving, manipulative, irrational, unfair...now organized into a kind of monolithic Collective Shrew, throwing a massive slo-mo cultural tantrum among us. It is the classic tactic of infantile Passive Control, a strategy vehemently protested against by Equity Feminists, who are none of that (as is no mature adult)... "What we are seeing in this headless misandry is a grand display of the Tyranny of the Underdog: 'I am a wretchedly longstanding victim; therefore I own no burden of adult accountability, nor need to honor any restraint against my words and actions. In fact, all efforts to restrain me are only further proof of my oppressed condition.' "It is the most perfect trump-card against accountable living ever devised." Gladden Schrock, from The Tyranny of the Underdog.

Used to be all about getting women the rights that every man had, like voting, and driving and now, it's backfired like all holy hell. Rather than being about equality between the sexes, it is all about what concessions can we get women so that way men have to go out of their way to treat them different, rather than equals. Now it is equal to Nazism in it's zealous pursuit to destroy all that is manly such as lumberjacks and beef jerky by making them politically correct, such as lumberperson and cured beef.

Feminism is a word that has done a complete about-face in it’s history as a word, which has not been long. Originated in the era of the sixties when there was a general explosion culturally in music, drug-taking, awareness of ecology, questioning of authority, and rebelling against anything that was middle-class, capitalistic, white-male dominated and anything considered to hinder personal expressions of freedom. Women at this time fought not for very long, for the right to not be portrayed in media as sexual objects, and not to be seen only as semen receptacles for men. They wanted to be taken seriously and not judged by what they looked like, but wanted culture to embrace women of all ages as they were, not what men wanted them to be, i.e. Barbie doll obedient blonde brainless bodies. Unfortunately, the male-dominated media quickly established the potential for this trend to cut in to market forces which used female bodies/images to sell things. So, the media really dug it’s heels in, playing on women’s most vulnerable insecurities, perpetuating myths about feminists being sad bra-burning butt-ugly, dykes, and after a time women, rather than carry on fighting and being seen as the media-defined feminist, just decided it’s easier to give in. In the early seventies, one TV program which started the ball rolling down this brainwashing exercise was “Charlies Angels” – oh girls yes, you can fight off murderers and survive extraordinary car-chases with not one hair out of place or any makeup smudged…AND have a flat stomach 24/7/365\!\! Hooray\! The way women gave in though to media’s pressure on feminists, in the way women are very good at, is to go into denial about the whole issue, and accept the media hype that true feminism is really about validating yourself through what you look like and what men (and other women) think of your appearance. Whole industries thrive on this factor, cosmetic surgery, fashion, diet foods, psychotherapy, make-up, blah blah. Women today are not only accepting this new definition, they are embracing it one hundred percent, emulating the likes of the original Barbie wannabe, Pammy A, Victoria Silvstedt etc (there are now just too fuckin many to mention). They are also bandying about the psychobabble term “body-image issues” accusing each other of bowing to media pressure, when in fact it’s no wonder that most women DO have issues around body-image. This is just another way of getting women to compete with each other and “keep them down”. Vast amounts of energy and money are spent on “shopping til you drop”, enhancing or re-defining bits of their bodies that don’t quite measure up to whoever or whatever the media is defining as “perfection”, learning how to lap-dance for their man, and this is all called “empowerment”, freedom and oh such fun\! Really, it’s just another form of sexual slavery. Side-note: it is proven than women still earn less than men so where do they get the money? One interesting spin-off of this is that the BigBrother contestant Nadia (UK), who is a trans-sexual, paid for her boob job by being a prostitute. No one batted an eye-lid here about this. Perhaps it’s because she did it as a man, not a woman. Hmmm. So to summarise, feminism originally meant freedom from being bound by male-dominated rules of sexual objectification, but today means just the opposite. To get anywhere as a woman, all along it’s been the same old story, it’s just been re-packaged and sold back to women where they are now not only the product, but the consumer. Wake up ladies.

OK I'll spend a fortune looking like your ultimate whore, but don't expect it for free....in fact, expect it to be very expensive. Alright? Cool.

The belief that women are (or should be considered as)either entirely equal or superior to men in intelligence, physical traits, or whatever else one could come up with. Okay, look, there's some interesting things to consider when it comes to how women and men are treated in society. It is surprising how some [feminists] use social [injustices] done to them in the past to justify their [superiority]. Of course women should be considered equal when it comes to value of life or starting wages (let the quality of work speak for itself, not gender you big business losers). Women should be able to be independant and make their own choices and let them BE HEARD. But, come on ladies, the feminazis and female chauvinists out there, let's not controdict ourselves here\! You say that men being superior to women is wrong (true); people generally have the idea that women being [raped] or [abused] is totally wrong (which is totally true because it's HORRIBLE and WRONG and rapists deserve to GO TO HELL AND BURN). But [pain] is pain and [inferiority] is inferiority no matter who experiences it; some are men, some are women, but we all are human. People who are willing to do the very thing they loathe (such as forcing the opposite gender into inferiority) is no better than the people who did it to them first. When a women is abused by a man, we say "leave that bastard." When a man is abused by a woman, we sympathize with the woman, who usually complains of [angry girl disease] or something. Who holds the door for whom? That's right, men hold the door, pull out the chair, and places their coats over puddles for women. Yes, some men are total jerks, but some women are too. Women can rape and objectify men just like men can rape and objectify women. Women have their strengths and weaknesses just like men do. Women weren't built to be superior or equal (in every way) as men, and men weren't built to be superior or equal (in every way) as women. It's not about equality (what a crappy world it would be if everyone was the same), it's about balance. Why not embrace the things that make you YOU, with gender playing the role as gender only (I know, way too optimistic to be true but we can try, can't we)? Why not work on creating a world where people can be respected for the things they can do than the things they can't instead of COMPLAINING about everything? Racists, sexists, antisemitists, people against homosexuals, anyone who "[hate]s" someone for any unjustifiable reason other than "just 'cause" (most reasons are stupid enough to be just so)only create imbalance. I mean, if some traumatic experience happened to you and you can't possibly heal and not be against a certain group, well, you're still hurting too, I understand that. Still, that gives you no right to lay that hurt upon innocent people (if you are mentally capable to know what you are doing). And no, being a feminist doesn't make you a lesbian or manly or whatever; your voice should be heard too, just, tone it down and focus on solving the issues rather than making more\! I know, not a definition, but neither are a lot of other entries either (check out [racism])...Oh, and by the way, I am 100% WOMAN, and can be proud of it without the need to belittle men. That's why I talk so much (ha). I'm against people using inequality to justify their own horribly [prejudiced] actions, that's all. Oh, and look at all the subtypes of feminists before anyone insists that feminists are only women who want men and women to be treated equal. Feminists are individuals with individual minds, you know. Don't use bias to support bias, please. It doesn't convince anyone but the insane and maybe your mother.

Consider the many forms of feminism: Amazon, Anarchist, Black, Chicana, Christian, Cultural, Difference, Eco, Equity, Equality, Fat, Gender, Individualist, Islamic, Jewish, Lesbian, Liberal, Marxist, Modern, New, Postmodern, Pro-life, Radical, Religious, Separatist, Sex-positive, Social, Socialist, Trans, Womanism. Not all forms or uses of feminism is justifiable. Feminism is necessary as a social movement but can be just as damaging once a group of mental or ignorant people misuse it.

Feminists will tell you that their aim is to bring about equality, but equality ceased to be the aim of feminism years ago. Feminism is a politically correct, federally funded special interest hate group.

NOW's Clearinghouse Against Fathers' Rights, The 3.9 billion dollar VAWA based on the myth that only men commit domestic violence and only women are victims, feminists claim that the VAWA is sex neutral, but then, they also claim that feminism is about equality. Source: Krigsman, Canada

65. (feminism) (671↑, 1244↓)
True feminism is something rarely seen today, and is the belief that all people are equal, regardless of sex. Modern feminism is when a woman thinks she's better than men because she has a vagina.

1) True feminism - "I'm a feminist because I believe that women should be given equal rights to men." 2) Modern feminism - "I'm a feminist because females are superior to men and men are here to serve women."

66. (Feminism) (724↑, 1297↓)
Ideology that helped to justify half ass motherhood, glorified prostitution, and pretending to like what men naturally like. It helped to break up marriages across the United States leaving men without children to father and nothing productive to do. Founded by women who wished they had a penis and were ashamed of estrogen. Ironically, feminism is strengthened by preventing men from being men.

Frank: Hey where is your wife? Eric: We got divorced, she embraced feminism. Frank: Sorry to hear that. What now. Eric: I guess I'll just work, watch sports, and rent porn. Frank: Join the crowd.

The act of not shaving your legs.

After reading Maya Angelou, my girlfriend told me she was going to embrace feminism, so i told her to shave her pits and call me.

70. (feminism) (1025↑, 1601↓)
A doctrine, originally formulated during the 18th and 19th century as women's emancipation and suffragetism, that advocated the emancipation of women and attempts to get everyone else to recognize that women have equal rights to men. Modern feminism is characterized by its doctrine of 'expanding choice for both genders', as feminists ostensibly desire a society where not only women may be allowed to do whatever they please (within reasonable, human limits), but to also allow men to enjoy the same freedoms as women should, which should include the choice of NOT doing something, if they do not wish to do so. Unfortunately, thanks to misunderstanding and human nature, nobody really believes in this shit anymore, and people stereotypically associate feminists with hairy-armpit owning dykes who hate all men, and opponents of feminists as hairy boorish pig-subhumans.

It's fucking sad, but feminism is a great example of why humanity is a damn sight dumber than everyone likes to believe.

71. (feminism) (628↑, 1207↓)
Feminism was women's way of saying goodbye to men. Now men are beginning to say goodbye to women.

Some people blame radical feminism for driving a wedge between men and women. In reality, most women are happy to reap the rewards of policies implemented as a result of this hate movement.

A very cleverly rebranded form of sexism that specifically looks out for the interests in women alone. It is for the above reason that such a movement is a hypocrisy and should not recieve government funding. FACT.

Germaine Greer pertains to feminism. Germaine Greer is a sexist dickhole.

Way for absolutely ANY girl (be it teacher, classmate, boss, co-worker, hell even the girl who works the late shift at burger king) to give you selfrighteous bullshit for a full halfhour about rights and discrimination when you've never done anything to a girl in your life and half the shit she's talking about never even concerned her and happened before you were even born. This generaly results in everyone within earshot to look down on you when 97% of the time you didn't even say anything wrong. Many people are victims of this everyday but can do nothing because the moral highground has been stolen by whichever women pulled feminism on you.

John- "hey gary why the long face?" gary- "last night I was talking about the olympics with amy and she asked why the men and women had separate events, I just said it was cause otherwise it wouldn't be fair, but she pulled feminism on me and locked me out of the flat cause she said I was a pig..." John- "I feel ya man, we've all been there"

78. (Feminism) (11↑, 730↓)
Political and cultural movement aimed at gaining equal rights & priviledges for women. This definition differs slightly, but significantly, from the standard definition: movement for equal rights between men & women. For example, the issue of shared custody would definitely refer to equal treatment for both sexes, but is not popular among feminists. Neither is the issue of boys falling behind girls in school. This is not to say that feminism is about man hating, which is a misconception that some women, as well as men, have. Women, who use equal rights rhetoric to dis men, are not really being feminists.

We can thank feminism for laws against sexual harassment in the workplace. She thinks she's a feminist because she says all men are jerks.

79. (Feminism) (39↑, 767↓)
The belief that [women] are superior to [men]. In order to maintain credibility among the general population, this belief is usually portrayed as making women equal to men. This is false, as women are not equal to men. This is called [biology]. Women are the intellectual equals of men and have always been treated as such, feminism seeks to make women "equal" in other ways, usually by demonisng men at every turn.

A woman chops a man's penis off because he wants a divorce, woman is celebrated. A man asks a woman for coffee, man is a rapist somehow. Isn't feminism wonderful..?

80. (Feminism) (990↑, 1801↓)
Feminism can be divided into two categories: 1. Human rights feminism. This is feminism which advocates for equal rights and opportunities to be available to women in the law and government. This is based upon the basic right that no one deserves to be unfairly treated by the courts or lose their personal rights. It defends the rights to property, voting, and civil liberties. This type of feminism occurred in America in the 1900s and was one of the more mainstream feminism ideologies in the 60s 70s but has since given way to more modern forms of feminism in America, although it is beginning to occur in many theocracies. 2. Modern feminism. This is the radically politically correct form of feminism. It encourages the idea that both the male and female gender are either equal (or can be equal) in every possible way or the female gender is inherently superior. Many modern feminists argue that women are more intelligent than men, ignoring factual and scientific evidence. They ignore the fact that the female brain is considerably smaller than the male’s in both volume, weight, and brain cell content. They also “overlook” the fact that there have been no great female artists and few great female scientists. They use a “one or two” approach in PC rallies, using the few great female scientists such as Elizabeth Blackwell and small time artists as poster girls for their cause of female superiority. They ignore the larger ratio of male scientists and artists and brand their opponents as sexists (the politicians with the fundamentalists). Modern feminism also encourages the idea that loose women should be as respectable and admirable as womanizers. They attempt to back this idea and stifle their insecurities by claiming the female orgasm is superior to the male’s. Despite these claims, scientific and societal evidence has proved otherwise, as women do not orgasm as often as males nor is their orgasm as fulfilling as the male’s, as proven by polls and pop culture and that women have traditionally been the providers of the pleasure in intercourse and men the receivers (as proven by 5000 years of culture and 500 million years of evolution). It is overall degrading to women because its PC approach advocates a positive handicap for women in careers and society, and that women should act unnaturally and attempt to completely ignore their instincts. While human rights feminism is based upon factual evidence, modern feminism is based upon bigotry and “literature.”

1. Human rights feminism: women advocating for the right to drive in Saudi Arabia; Women demanding the right to vote in 19th- early 20th century America. 2. Modern feminism: 3rd wave feminists claiming that stripping is empowering for women; Feminists trying to reverse gender roles in marriage; Feminists claiming that the average female is more intelligent than the average male.

81. (Feminism) (182↑, 999↓)
The radical notion that women are people too.

I support feminism to a degree.. Those extremists are just crazy, though. Ever notice the word history? HIS-STORY? We're not going to change it to satisfy the ravaging lust for equal everything.

82. (feminism) (638↑, 1558↓)
By definition, a person who believes in the fundamental equality between the sexes, with a focus upon women's issues such as equal pay or stereotyping. However, those who call themselves feminists rarely abide by the dictionary term. A more appropriate term for the feminist of today is female chauvinist, one who believes the female sex is naturally superior to the male sex. Those that call themselves feminist typically subscribe to second-wave feminism, which evolved in the 1970s from the earlier, first-wave feminism. Whereas first-wave feminism sought legislation that would grant equal protection under the law, second-wave feminism sought an overthrow of what they called "patriarchy," which included traditional families and capitalism. Contrary to many feminist claims, feminism is not a belief that is exclusive to women. Some feminists object to men referring to themselves as feminist, and use the term "pro-feminist" instead. A man who believes in equal protection under the law can be classified as feminist by definition. Feminists and feminist organizations tend to campaign for issues they percieve as important to women, such as abortion rights (most feminists are pro-choice), domestic violence, LGBT rights, and similar issues. Feminism is often criticized for a unilateral approach to their issues, focusing only on increasing the rights of women, even to the point of denying the rights of men, underscoring the importance of those issues in relation to men (such as Dr. Laura stating that men had more to fear from violence then women, as they were attacked more often, and being subsequently villified by feminists.) Feminism has garnered much criticism for it's methods and statistics, and has been accused of violating it's own edicts. Among parents, mothers are more likely to murder their children then their fathers according to the FBI, yet feminist organizations push that single-parenthood, with maternal custody, is in the best interests of the child. Alternatively, feminist organizations equate any time a rape or domestic violence (female) victim is required to present evidence to prove her claims as "blaming the victim." Feminist organizations want to apply the precautionary principle, accepting the allegation at face value to "protect the victim." Critics counter by stating victims can provide evidence to the courts, and that precautionary principles without checks and balances allow women to exploit the legal system for profit. Backlash further against feminism can also be found in statements that are misandrist, or hatred of males. Valerie Solonas is one of the most popular, having written a book about killing men. Mary Daly, a theologian who was fired for refusing to admit a male student who was otherwise qualified for her class, also advocated creating a "male-free" paradise. Other misandrists include Robin Morgan, Andrea Dworkin, Gloria Allred, and Catherine MacKinnon.

The family down the street believes in feminism. They believe special treatment that favors men or women is inherently sexist. Major feminist organizations are not feminists. They believe in gaining special treatments for women and depriving those rights of men. To justify this, they usually use vague statments such as "ignorance of male privlege."

83. (feminism) (827↑, 1872↓)
An idea that stood for the equality of women and men once (about 30 years ago)but is now just about kicking men in the balls and treating them with extreme bias and unfairness.

"Dude how's your new job at the gas station?" "It's great. I sure wish feminism hadn't frightened me away from college though."

84. (Feminism) (710↑, 1758↓)
Estrogen-induced sexism.

If she's got a vagina, she's better than you. That's feminism.

85. (feminism) (797↑, 1853↓)
The abuse of something that once stood for equal rights for women. Now it is just used to take away rights from men and make them second class citizens.

"What is my opinion? I'm not allowed to say, cause I'm a man"

86. (feminism) (796↑, 1996↓)
Feminism was women's way of saying goodbye to men. And now men are beginning to say goodbye to women.

"Radical" feminism is now being blamed for driving a wedge between men and women. But the truth is that most women were perfectly happy to sit back and watch it happen.

87. (feminism) (1377↑, 2769↓)
A movement to promote women's interests at the expense of men. Despite claims by some moderate (and misled) [feminists] to the contrary, feminism is not a movement for the betterment of men and women. If it was, it would be called humanism. Feminists are not concerned, for example, about the fact that four times as many men commit suicide as women or that fewer and fewer boys attend college or graduate from high school. Feminists demand that we treat men and women as exactly equal unless it suits women to differentiate between the sexes. For example, a typical feminist will see no irony in arguing on one hand that women need more protection from domestic violence, rape and sexual harassment but on the other hand that women are just as good as men at construction and fighting crime, fires and wars.

Question: How many feminists does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: That's not funny, you sexist pig. I will report your hate speech and ensure that your career and reputation is destroyed. We need a speech code to regulate people such as yourself. And you need to attend sensitivity training so that you can be re-educated on the benefits of feminism.
